Can I Fry Nigerian Meat Pie?
This is one of the most frequently asked questions on All Nigerian Recipes.
Flo, I do not have an oven, can I fry Nigerian Meat Pie? Or straight up: Can I deep-fry Nigerian Meat Pie?
The simple answer? No.
And yes. You can do so with a few tweaks to the original recipe.
It is not advisable to fry the Nigerian Meat Pie as it is because if you look at the recipe, the Nigerian Meat Pie dough contains a good amount of margarine. It’s on a 1:2 ratio with the flour. That is already too much oil going on in the dough and when you fry it, the quality of the crust will be compromised.
But there’s a solution.
To fry Nigerian Meat Pie:
- Mix the dough using the recipe for mixing the dough for Nigerian Fish Rolls. Click here to see how to do that. That dough is more suitable for deep-frying.
- Prepare the filling using the recipe for preparing Nigerian Meat Pie Filling. Click here for details.
- Cut, fill and close the meat pies following the steps for finishing up Nigerian Meat Pie. Click here.
- Then deep-fry in hot vegetable oil till golden.
There, you have it. That’s how to enjoy Nigerian Meat Pie when you do not have an oven and you do not want to use a pot to bake. Yes, you can deep-fry it after a few tweaks.

What could be the cause of breaking in the dough
And what can I do when it happens
The raw dough before baking? Did you use butter? Did you use the right flour?
